ABOUT

About Cara Callaghan

Hello, I’m Cara. I’m a qualified Resilient Kid Coach. I’m offering support to children and families to build confidence, emotional wellbeing and resilience. Growing up can sometimes come with big feelings, worries, friendship struggles and moments when confidence takes a knock. Children shouldn’t have to navigate those things alone. Through The Resilient Kid, I offer warm, practical and creative support for children and families, helping with areas including anxiety, confidence, emotional regulation, friendships and resilience. I believe in seeing the child behind the behaviour and helping children feel safe, understood and supported. My aim is to help children feel calmer, braver and more confident within themselves. I’ll be supporting children and families across Disley, High Lane, Whaley Bridge, Marple, Bollington and the surrounding areas.

MY STORY

Why I joined The Resilient Hub

I suppose my route to becoming a Resilient Kid Coach has been a bit of a winding one! I’ve spent the last 13 years working with children in primary education, across both Key Stages and, more recently, in specialist provision. I’ve worked with lots of different children, with lots of different personalities, needs and ways of communicating. If there’s one thing working with children has taught me, it’s that there is nearly always more going on underneath the behaviour. The child who is 'being difficult' might actually be overwhelmed. The child who won’t join in might be worried about getting it wrong. The child who seems angry might simply not know what to do with a feeling that has become too big. Sometimes children just need somebody to stop, listen and look at things from their point of view. That’s something I’ve always found really important. Creativity has also been a big part of my life. I have a degree in Printed Textiles and have run after-school art classes. I’ve seen how drawing, making and creating can give children another way to express themselves when talking about things isn't quite so easy. I’m not a parent myself, and I would never pretend that I know what it’s like to be one. Parents know their children in a way nobody else can. What I do bring is many years of experience working alongside children, a genuine curiosity about what makes them tick, and a belief that every child deserves to feel understood rather than simply judged by their behaviour. That’s one of the reasons The Resilient Kid felt like such a natural fit for me. I love the idea of helping children understand themselves a little better, giving them practical things they can actually use, and helping them feel a bit calmer, a bit braver and a bit more confident. Sometimes a child doesn't need ‘fixing’. They just need someone to help them understand what’s going on — and remind them that they can handle it.

A MESSAGE FROM ME

A message from Cara Callaghan

Hello and welcome! I’m Cara, and I’m really glad you’re here. If you’ve found your way to my page because your child is struggling with worries, confidence, big feelings, friendships or just finding things a bit difficult at the moment, hopefully I can help. Children can have a lot going on in their heads, and they don’t always know how to explain it. Sometimes it comes out as anger, tears, worry, shutting down or behaviour that leaves us scratching our heads and thinking, “What on earth is going on?” I’m a big believer in looking at the child behind the behaviour. I want to be able to give children a safe space where they can be themselves, talk (when they want to!), make sense of how they’re feeling and, importantly, have a bit of fun along the way. My approach is warm, practical and creative. I use conversation, activities and creativity to help children understand their emotions, build confidence and develop tools they can actually use in everyday life. Parents are a huge part of that too. You know your child better than anyone, so I’m not here to tell you how to parent or pretend I have all the answers. I’m here to listen, work alongside you and hopefully make things feel a little easier. Sometimes children just need a little extra support. It doesn’t mean they’re failing, and it doesn’t mean you’re failing either. Life can be tricky. For all of us. My job is to help children feel a little calmer, a little braver and a little more confident in dealing with it – and if I can - I’d love to help.
